Greetings, KC Tar Heels! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the holiday season. As many of you know, I am Adam Davis, a 96 UNC alum and Lenexa resident (Lawrence native). I don’t have any official title, but for a few years I have been helping to organize watch parties for sports (mostly basketball).
Sorry that we are a bit slow getting to you, but the football team certainly gave us no reason to gather, and the basketball schedule has been a bit unusual. There have not really been any pre-planned weekend games that were worthwhile. But our group’s leadership (i.e., a few of us who e-mail one another from time to time) have determined that our first watch party should be on Dec. 17 at 2 p.m., when the Tar Heels battle a pretty good Tennessee team (coached by our old friend Rick Barnes) on the road.
Our usual site is the Peanut in Overland Park. I assume they will take care of us, but I know from experience to wait until closer to the date of the game to call them about it, when I have a better idea of what our numbers will be. That day is a Sunday, but it works out because the Chiefs are playing on Saturday night that week. So, assume that The Peanut (7938 Santa Fe Drive, OP KS) will be the location unless you hear differently. Please RSVP if you plan to come. Also, I’m always trying to keep my e-mail list up to date, so if you got this e-mail and you actually don’t care about UNC basketball, please let me know and I’ll take you off the list. And, if you know of a local Tar Heel who is not on the list, please send me their contact info.
